Welcome to Milan Elementary School!

Principal's Message

Welcome to Milan Elementary School. We are happy to have you as part of the Milan family. Our mission is to help every child learn and grow to reach his/her fullest potential. Just like we say in our student pledge every morning, “I came to school to learn, and I will learn.”

We have high expectations for Milan Elementary students. Our students are well-behaved, study hard, and treat others and our property with respect. We actively seek family support as we work together teaching lifelong learning skills to our future leaders.

We welcome your participation and support. Working together, we will be able to reach our goals.

Fees & Supplies

Book Fees have been established for the 2014-2015 school year and should be paid before school starts if at all possible.  The ideal time to pay book fees and deposit money into your child's lunch account would be during "Meet The Teacher" Night on Monday, August 4.  For your convenience we will have booths set up in the gym beginning at 5:00 p.m. where you can take care of these back-to-school chores.  Application forms for lunch and book fee assistance will also be available at this time.  Kindergarten fees may be paid during orientation earlier that day at 1:00 p.m.

2014-2015 fees are as follows:

Kindergarten - $98.00
Grade 1  -  $109.50
Grade 2  -  $106.00
Grade 3  -  $  83.50
Grade 4  -  $  80.00
Grade 5  -  $  78.00

Please make checks payable to Milan Elementary School.  Although book fees and lunch deposits must be made separately, you are encouraged to combine book fees for all children into one check and lunch deposits for the family into another check.

Character Counts in our Community!

Dear Parents,

Milan Community Schools is sponsoring a special event from Monday, August 18th - Monday, August 25th for the community.  We have contacted area businesses who are supporting our character counts initiative by allowing us to place a bow as a visual sign as well as materials which include the Developmental Assets.  Each day we will be focusing on a character word and color at each of the schools.  We would appreciate your support in helping us promote as well as participate in this event.

  • Monday, August 18th = (T) Trustworthiness - "Wear Blue and Tell the Truth."
  • Tuesday, August 19th = (R) Respect - "Wear Yellow and Be Respectful by Following the Golden Rule."
  • Wednesday, August 20th = (R) Responsibility - "Wear Green and Do the Right Thing."
  • Thursday, August 21st = (F) Fairness - "Wear Orange, Be Fair and Follow the Rules."
  • Friday, August 22nd = (C) Caring - "Wear Red, Be Caring and Say or Do Something Kind for Others This Day."
  • Monday, August 25th = (C) Citizenship - "Wear Purple, Be a Good Citizen by Helping Someone Today."

Thank you in advance for your help with this project as together we strive to build an even better community.

~Mrs. Brenda Schwering, Guidance Counselor

Grandparents Day

Milan Elementary School welcomes grandparents to visit their grandchild at school on Friday, August 29th.  A flyer, with a reservation form attached, was sent home with the students indicating the times:

  • Kindergarten = 9:45-10:30
  • Grade 1 = 8:45-9:30
  • Grade 2 = 10:30 - 11:15
  • Grade 3 = 12:45 - 1:30
  • Grade 4 = 8:30-9:15
  • Grade 5 = 1:30 - 2:15
  • Mrs. Schutte's Class = 1:15 - 2:00.

During the visit, there will be an opportunity for grandparents and child to have a photo taken together.  At the end of the visit, children will remain here at school and follow their normal schedule.

Grandparents are encouraged to make their reservation as soon as possible so teachers can plan accordingly.  Due to limited seating capacity, this is not a time for grandparents or other guests to join their child for lunch. Arrangements can be made to visit for lunch on a normal school day by contacting the school office on the day before the visit.

School staff members will be on hand to help with parking.  Please let us know in advance if you need help with parking or help getting from your car to the building.
