Welcome to Milan Elementary School!
Welcome to Milan Elementary School. We are happy to have you as part of the Milan family. Our mission is to help every child learn and grow to reach his/her fullest potential. Just like we say in our student pledge every morning, “I came to school to learn, and I will learn.”
We have high expectations for Milan Elementary students. Our students are well-behaved, study hard, and treat others and our property with respect. We actively seek family support as we work together teaching lifelong learning skills to our future leaders.
We welcome your participation and support. Working together, we will be able to reach our goals.
Book Fees have been established for the 2013-2014 school year and should be paid before school starts if at all possible. The ideal time to pay book fees and deposit money into your child's lunch account would be during "Meet The Teacher" Night on Thursday, August 1. For your convenience we will have booths set up in the gym beginning at 5:00 p.m. where you can take care of these back-to-school chores. Application forms for lunch and book fee assistance will also be available at this time. Kindergarten fees may be paid during orientation on August 5.
2013-2014 fees are as follows:
Kindergarten - $93.00
Grade 1 - $105.00
Grade 2 - $101.00
Grade 3 - $ 81.00
Grade 4 - $ 74.50
Grade 5 - $ 74.00
Please make checks payable to Milan Elementary School. Although book fees and lunch deposits must be made separately, you are encouraged to combine book fees for all children into one check and lunch deposits for the family into another check.
The students and staff of Milan Elementary School were very excited to learn that they had won the "Kick It With Blue" school challenge, a program and competition sponsored by the Indianapolis Colts and open to Indiana schools.
Blue, the Colts' mascot, visited Milan Elementary last fall and challenged the students and staff to "kick-it" in three areas: classroom achievement, fitness, and eliminating bullying. Everyone at MES was eager to accept the challenge and show the world what they could do. Throughout the school year, the students participated in many programs and opportunities focused around these three goals. School Counselor Brenda Schwering coordinated the effort, along with advice from a committee of teachers and the support of all the students and staff.
A ten-minute video, created by and starring the students and produced and edited by Technology Trainer Carolyn Dube, highlighted many of the positive things that are happening on a daily basis at Milan Elementary School. The compilation of photos and short videos taken of activities during the school year as well as narratives, skits and vignettes written by and starring the students was submitted for judging.
Principal Jane Rogers and Counselor Schwering shared the good news with students and staff that their entry had won the challenge and that Blue, along with some of the Colts' players and cheerleaders would visit them on Friday, May 24 to congratulate them during a pep rally in the school gymnasium.
If you'd like to see the video the students created, it can be found on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m-5f_n_yMQ&feature=youtu.be
Milan Elementary Kindergarten Registration will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Milan Elementary School for children who will be five years old on or before August 1, 2014.
A brief screening session is part of the registration process. Each session will last about 1/2 hour with the total registration process taking about one hour to complete. For the parents’ convenience there will be several sessions during which children may be screened/registered. Screening sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. that morning and continue throughout the day in half-hour increments (8:30, 9:00, 9:30, etc.) with the final session beginning at 4:00 p.m. Parents are asked to call the school at 654-2922 or 654-2379 to indicate which session you and your child will be attending. All 2014 Kindergarten classes will be full-day.
All sessions will be held in the school gymnasium. It is IMPORTANT that you be here ready to begin at the time the session starts. The child who will be attending Kindergarten should come with you but, due to lack of space and the time involved, we ask that other children do not attend. If a parent cannot attend with the child, another adult designated by the parent must be present as a great deal of important information and paperwork is given out during the enrollment session.
Please be sure to bring your child’s birth certificate and immunization record with you that day. Children are not “officially” registered until these items are on file.
The Ripley County Health Department offers immunizations by appointment. You can schedule an appointment by calling 689-0506. Margaret Mary Health offers immunizations at their new Wellness Clinic, located at 1051 State Road 229 North in Batesville (across from Kroger and behind Mainsource Bank), on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Appointments are available by calling them at 812-934-0699. You must bring your child’s personal immunization record with you to either clinic or immunizations cannot be given.
Minimum requirements for the State of Indiana are: five doses of DPT, ( four doses if the fourth dose was given on or after the fourth birthday), four polio immunizations, two doses of MMR, three doses of Hepatitis B, two doses of Hepatitis A, two chickenpox vaccinations (on or after the first birthday) or physician record of chicken pox disease.
Again, please be sure to call the school at 654-2922 or 654-2379 to indicate which session you and your child will be attending.
Current Kindergarten classes will be in session that day.
